“There is a lot to discover in a cityscape”. To create a cityscape, Sophia first of all looks for that part of the city she wants to capture. She photographs from different angles and searches for a composition using the atmosphere and unique features. Working from large to smaller areas and details, Sophia composes the cityscape on canvas creating her very own visual language by abstracting the image wich remains recognizable.

Sophia has a very distinctive style, which may not always match reality, but recognition still remains. Elements are often added to or omitted from the painting. She often plays with reflections on the water. This gives her the opportunity to find the right composition, add more color and playful effects to a painting.

The landscapes made by Sophia are recognisable and made in a very distinctive way. Inspired by landscapes of her youth, her travels and her living environment Sophia is able to visualize landscapes in austere shapes and paint this on canvas in a playful way. Colors are brought together based on emotion.

In this series Sophia works on “Let it Go”. Letting go of her clean lines, letting go of her way of working and letting go of certain thinking patterns, but in her recognizable use of color. In this series she started painting intuitively. She is in the middle of a painting process in which new ideas and developments have arisen. “I think it is very important to use different techniques, surfaces and materials, to be able to develop myself.”
